Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said the constitutional provision was revoked in keeping with the spirit of the Constitution.
Speaking at the press conference, Gaurav Bhatia said that although Article 370 itself began with the word “temporary,” no previous government had demonstrated the political will to revoke it. He stated that in 2019, Union Home Minister Amit Shah took the necessary step, reflecting the resolve of Sardar Patel.
The BJP spokesperson also said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the extradition of fugitive criminals has become a national priority. According to him, the government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards fugitive offenders.
Gaurav Bhatia further stated that between 2019 and 2026, a total of 274 fugitives were brought back to India from 36 countries. He said this reflects the government’s continued focus on pursuing fugitive criminals through international cooperation.
