US defence chief, a stronger and more capable India contributes to a stable power structure in the Indo-Pacific, a goal shared by both New Delhi and Washington. He praised India’s continued investments in military readiness and indigenous defence production, calling them essential for addressing emerging security challenges.
Hegseth also highlighted the rapid growth of India’s defence manufacturing sector, saying it plays an important role in strengthening the capabilities of partner nations. He pointed to India’s increasing ability to support advanced military platforms and provide maintenance and logistical services, including for naval assets operating in the region.
The Pentagon chief further revealed that the United States and India are advancing defence cooperation through co-production initiatives. His remarks underscored the growing strategic convergence between India and the United States as both countries seek stronger cooperation in defence manufacturing, maritime security and Indo-Pacific affairs.
