US President Donald Trump has indicated that trade discussions between India and the United States are moving in a positive direction, expressing confidence that both nations can bridge differences and finalize a trade agreement.Addressing reporters at the White House, Trump spoke warmly about his relationship with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing the Indian leader as someone he respects and works well with. He suggested that the strong diplomatic ties between the two leaders could help advance ongoing economic negotiations.

US Trade Agreement, Calls PM Modi a ‘Good Friend’

US President Donald Trump has expressed optimism about the ongoing trade negotiations between India and the United States, saying that both countries are likely to reach a mutually beneficial agreement in the near future.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump highlighted his strong personal rapport with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing him as a close friend and an important partner in strengthening bilateral relations.

“We have a very good relationship, and I believe we will reach an agreement soon,” Trump said while discussing trade talks between the two nations.

The remarks come as India and the United States continue negotiations on an interim trade pact aimed at expanding economic cooperation and resolving tariff-related concerns. A US delegation recently visited India for discussions, with both sides reportedly emphasizing cooperation and practical solutions.

At the same time, Trump reiterated his long-standing concerns regarding India’s tariff policies, claiming that American businesses had faced challenges in accessing the Indian market. He argued that recent US trade measures are intended to create a more balanced trading environment.

The US administration has also announced additional tariffs on imports from several countries, including India, citing concerns over alleged forced-labour practices in global supply chains. The move could impact trade discussions, although both nations have signaled their intention to continue negotiations.

Trump also referred to Harley-Davidson’s experience in India, stating that high import duties had previously limited the company’s growth in the country. He contrasted this with the relatively open access enjoyed by foreign motorcycle manufacturers in the US market.

Despite ongoing disagreements over tariffs and trade policies, officials from both countries remain hopeful that a new bilateral trade framework can be finalized, further strengthening economic ties between the world’s largest and fifth-largest economies.
